We are looking for a self-motivated and experienced Design Engineer to join the automotive research and development team to support the growth of the company with new product development.
Alongside our own range of parts, Powerflex produce parts for many large vehicle manufacturers and industrial applications.
The Powerflex development team are responsible for all aspects of the part and tooling design, including design for manufacture and assembly.
Reporting to the Design Manager, you will play a fundamental role in the development of innovative, products, supporting key design decisions through prototyping, testing and problem-solving.
Responsibilities
- Create detailed CAD models and technical drawings of mechanical parts and assemblies
- Develop and refine manufacturing process quality and efficiency
- Research and document vehicle fitment information
- Design of jigs and tooling components for manufacture, assembly and product testing
- Prototyping, functional and mechanical testing, analysis of test data
- Support pre-sales cost estimates and take an active role in customer technical discussions
- Research new and innovative technology to improve products and processes
- Problem-solving and investigation into failure modes
- Provide post-sales engineering support
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements
- Degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent work experience
- 3 years of engineering design, with automotive or motorsport knowledge advantageous
- Practical hands-on mechanical experience and understanding
- Design for manufacture knowledge
- Proven experience with new product development
- Ability to work quickly and accurately with CAD (Fusion 360, Solidworks)
- Experience producing engineering drawings
- Aptitude and desire to learn from and share knowledge with other team members and departments
- Ambition to develop and grow with this rapidly expanding business
Top candidates will also have
- Simulation knowledge and experience with FEA
- Familiar with and frequent use of 3D scanning
- An understanding of CAM
