Finding the correct diameter of your anti-roll bar (ARB) can be tricky, but it’s vitally important if you are looking to replace your old bushes.
There are often many size variants of bar available and it’s important that the correct sized bush is chosen to ensure the correct fit and operation.
Manufacturers don’t always list the size of the bar on their electronic parts catalogues, so manually measuring it might be the only option.
To measure your bar, there are two recommended methods – Vernier Caliper or Open-ended Spanner.
Vernier Caliper
This is by far the most accurate way of measuring the ARB and is common in a garage environment.
They can be used to measure length, width, depth and step, offering a high level of precision and accuracy.
Open-ended Spanner/Wrench
By placing the open end of the spanner over the ARB and to the side of the rubber bush, you can gauge the size by simply moving up and down on the size until you find one that fits closely.
Whatever the size of the spanner is the size of the ARB bush that you’d require. Simple!
In both cases, it is important that you measure as close to the bush as possible, and not on a bend as this can affect the reading often making it smaller or larger than the actual bar size.
